The station is open all afternoon to visitors. It is not scheduled as a steam day. If we meet up at 5pm arrangments have been made for us to have a short walk to what remains of the Tannery buildings, recorded by the Society in 1974. On our return the station will have closed to the public and we can have a social picnic together on the platform, or inside the station if bad weather.
Thursday 2nd September
Images from our Records - The 1970's - Philip Tolley.
In the early years of the Society most of our recording photography was carried out on black and white film. With digital projectors we can now show these more easily. Images will include Whitwell Tannery, Narbrough Water Mill, Two Mile Bottom Fertilizer Works, Randell of North Walsham, Pulham Laundry, Attlebrough Maltings, Kenninghall Brickworks, Little Plumstead Brickworks and many other sites, including one or two mystery images.
40th Anniversary of the Formation of the Society
September and October we are planning to feature a number of events to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Society. These we hope will include an exhibition in Castle Mall and smaller displays in Branch Libraries; a number of talks and lectures including a Keynote Lecture to be given in Norwich {provisionally at the Forum on a Saturday afternoon) and held in conjunction with the East Anglian Branch of the Council for British Archaeology.
As always the Chairman welcomes suggestions of speakers. If you know anyone or have heard a good relevant talk please let him know.
If you can give a talk of interest to our members please get in touch with him. He would particularly like to hear of members who can make a presentation to the Society, be it for a full evening (an hour to a maximum of hour and a half) or just 10 minutes on a members night. We are able to help with the
preparation of visual aids &etc. Slide projectors, computer, digital projector and overhead projector are all available.
